Go from grey to green with a raw food diet

Grey to Green :: So D'lish. New Zealand's food blog website

I attended an amazing raw food workshop run by Renate from Grey to Green - Raw food for Life in Auckland. My intention was not to become a "raw foodie", but I certainly see the benefits. It was for me to incorporate at least three-four raw food side dishes or meals per week in my family repertoire of dishes. As a parent, it is my responsibility to oversee the overall nutritional content of meals in my family, especially my daughters.

Of course when I came home, with my armed ammunition the first response was with bated breath, "Oh, are we going eat just raw food for dinner?"

My reply was "No, but I am going to make an amazing delicious side dish of broccoli/fresh corn with a tahini dressing." This was a winner with my family along with our hot main meal.

Renate from the  Grey to Green Workshop confirmed why it is important for us to choose organic, fresh produce all if not most of the time. Also, the benefits of keeping foods in its most natural state.

She showed us how easy it was to prepare raw food dishes for us (remember no oven is needed!), while we sampled the delectable raw food dishes that was made. To be honest, prior to doing this workshop, I didn't believe raw food could taste so delectable or look so appetising - I was wrong!

I am not a converted raw foodie, (however if I was faced with a life threatening disease I would follow this plan) but I have taken away with me the tools on how to incorporate some nutritious raw meals for my family.  Each morning along with my warm oats, I juice myself a "green juice" of celery, green apple, lots of ginger, kale (or any other green leafy vege) + 1/2 tsp kelp - also doing this has turned me off coffee and lollies! A definite bonus.

If you don't believe me, make the dessert below. For more on Raw Food, please contact  www.fromgreytogreen.co.nz

UPDATE: It's been 5 weeks since I attended the workshop and introduced my early morning green juices...and I still HAVE NOT had coffee or lollies. But more importantly I don't crave either.

Monique gave me a raw chocolate brownie mousse tart to go with this post and I will put it up, but I need to build up the courage to make it first! I thought, chocolate mousse tart, yum! But because it's a raw dish, it has no flour or eggs. The crust contains lots of macadamia nuts which does sound good but the fill includes two avocados. Avocados in a chocolate tart?! I am just a little bit afraid, to say the least, even though Monique assures me that it's a delicious brownie.

The things I do for this blog! Watch this space... (gulp)

Have your say

Hi there, do you know where 'from grey to green NZ' have gone? The convenient links on your website are not working and I'm wondering if they changed their domain name.

Hey Andrea - do you still have the raw chocolate moose tart recipe? Sounds very paleo and I would like to try it. Suse

    Andrea,

RE: The comment in this blog "Go from grey to green with a raw food diet"

Did you get around to making the Chocolate Brownie mousse? It will work. I'm on my way to becoming a raw chef.. early early days but I do know that this would taste great.
