Cakesnake

My bakeware cupboard was fairly tidy (see the 'before' picture below), but because everything was stacked on top of each other, getting to the things at the bottom of the pile can make a bit of a mess! Enter Cakesnake - the brain child of Sydney's Elizabeth Proctor. Handily, Elizabeth's husband is a product designer and he makes the Cakesnakes in his workshop. It's nice to see people recognising a problem and doing something about it! But of course, having a hubby that can whip up your ideas into a real product is a real advantage. The Cakesnake is a good example of a simple idea that works well.

Bakeware cupboard before

I describe the Cakesnake as a giant toast rack. You fit your bakeware into the slots and that's it: everything is tidy and easy to get to. Designed with bakeware in mind, Elizabeth says that it can also be used for cookbooks, chopping boards and platters.

 Cakesnake in my cupboard

Design

47cm long x 15cm high x 33cm wide.
Cakesnakes are made of aluminium and powder coated in red or white with matching rubber feet. It's well made, light and can fit into most double-doored cupboards or deep drawers. While I like the design, a thicker coat of paint would be great, as the paint can scratch and peel a little over time or if your tins are a snug fit.

Edit: I sent pictures of my peeling Cakesnake and she said that I probably have a faulty one. She said that powder coating is usually very durable and my past experience with powder coated products has been good.

Usability

Most of my bakeware fits into the slots easily and I've even been able to group of few of the narrower items together so I can fit 2-4 items in one space. One of my favourite baking tins is just a tiny bit too deep to fit into the slot but because of Cakesnake's construction, it flexes slightly so I could nudge one of the prongs over so it fits my tin. Accessing my tins from the Cakesnake is easy, what a relief!

I would love to see Cakesnake make some new products one day, maybe something for pot lids (a real nuisance in my pot drawer) and maybe the original Cakesnake with a couple of wider slots.

So where can you get Cakesnake in New Zealand? Watch this space, is all that I can say right now ;) ........

Thank you to Elizabeth from Cakesnake for sending me a Cakesnake to review and use.

Have your say
